Background

Jan is a creative artist, designer and teacher living in Norfolk, UK. Her practice at present is based on her interaction and exploration of the relationship with her horse, the landscape and people around her. Primarily Jan’s work seeks to communicate her experiences by using a range of media that includes resist techniques, washes, photography, and videos.

Her background in textiles is evident in the processes that she engages with, and her wide use of processes and techniques reflects her significant time and experiences as an Art teacher in a High School in Suffolk.

Jan attended Brighton Polytechnic in the early 80s and gained a Textiles for Fashion BA(Hons). Furthering her studies, she trained as a Teacher in Further and Adult Education, followed by a Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Art and Design, and after that a Post Graduate Diploma in Education.

In response to the Pandemic and the sudden death of her brother in 2020 she decided to leave teaching in school and finally explore her own artistry. She is currently furthering her studies and working towards an MA in Fine Art at Norwich University of Arts UK
